A New Era in Golf: How the Myrtle Beach Classic Blends Traditional PGA Tour with YouTube Sensations, Shaping the Future of the Sport
The Myrtle Beach Classic is a new event for the PGA Tour in 2024. Scheduled for 9th-12th May at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, South Carolina. The tournament will host players who are not exempt from playing the Wells Fargo at Quail Hollow the same weekend, which is designated as an elevated event on the PGA Tour with an increased prize fund compared to other tour events.
Along with the PGA Tour players not exempt from playing at Quail Hollow, the Myrtle Beach Classic will also host players from the Korn Ferry Tour, allowing them to test their credentials as potential future PGA Tour regulars.
What makes the Myrtle Beach Classic stand out is that in March, a unique qualification event took place that offered one tournament spot for 16 hopefuls: professionals with Korn Ferry/PGA Tour experience, some of the best YouTube golfers, and Tyler Watts, a 15-year-old protege from North Carolina.
